Newsom signs bills on stolen art, use of AI in entertainment

The stolen art bill was inspired by family of man who gave Nazis a painting in exchange for an exit visa.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed bills to limit the use of artificial intelligence in entertainment and help families recover art stolen by the Nazis.

AB 2867 was inspired by a two-decade legal battle over a stolen painting. The San Diego-based Cassirer family sought the return of a painting by 19th Century Neo-Impressionist artist Camille Pissarro, which they say their Jewish ancestor surrendered to the Nazis in 1939 in exchange for a visa to flee Germany.
