Lawsuit filed against new state laws restricting parody, AI deepfakes

A lawsuit seeking injunctions was filed less than an hour after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed two laws to ban parody or deceptive videos about political candidates using artificial intelligence.

The creator of a deepfake parody video of Kamala Harris that went viral sued to block two new California laws that would ban deceptive election videos created using artificial intelligence. The case could help define the limits of parody in an era when it is possible to make false videos that appear to be real.
