Sheriff ends ankle monitor releases after judge nixes conditions
U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar's ruling that sheriff's deputies can't randomly conduct searches on those released pretrial with ankle monitors means the program can't be conducted safely, San Francisco County Sheriff Paul Miyamoto said.
Days after a federal judge lambasted the City of San Francisco for imposing electronic monitoring conditions that violated the court's injunctive order, Sheriff Paul Miyamoto announced that his office would suspend its ankle monitoring program that allowed early pretrial release for defendants who accepted certain conditions, such as random searches.
