Monsanto successors settle chemical pollution suit filed by LA
City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto said that settlement funds will be allocated to the cleanup and monitoring of local waterways impacted by PCB contamination, as well as reimbursement for costs the city has incurred in addressing the problem.
The city of Los Angeles reached a $35 million settlement with Monsanto Company and its successors over the historical production and sale of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chemicals the city alleged continue to contaminate several local waterways. The settlement resolves a 2022 lawsuit filed by the city that claimed Monsanto knowingly manufactured and sold PCBs despite their environmental and public health risks.
