More counties open Care Courts as Monday deadline looms

Most California counties faced a Dec. 1 deadline to roll out their programs. In recent days, superior courts in Alameda, Butte, El Dorado, Napa and Nevada have also announced they would begin accepting referrals.

Several more counties are rolling out CARE Courts in California, accepting referrals under Gov. Gavin Newsom's ambitious plan to address massive homelessness in California. Since last year, the courts have received few petitions and forwarded fewer people to treatment.

Santa Clara County will roll out its version on Monday.
