Santa Cruz Wharf collapse sparks CEQA controversy

A conservation group's attorney rebuts claims that its environmental lawsuit delayed crucial repairs.

When sections of the Santa Cruz Wharf fell into the sea just before Christmas, people quickly began pointing fingers at plaintiffs they believe misused California's most famous environmental law. But the group's attorney has rejected these claims.

"Perhaps if there hadn't been such unnecessary delay from frivolous lawsuits, we would still have the original wharf," read one of the more polite reader comments in a local entertainment paper called Good Times. ...
