LA City Council OKs free legal to fight eviction
Los Angeles tenants earning below 80% of median income now qualify for free legal defense against evictions, funded by Measure ULA, which aimed to curb homelessness with taxes on sales of large properties amid soaring housing costs.





The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance to set up a program to provide free legal defense for tenants facing eviction.
Tenants living within a specified area and earning 80% or less of the median income in the city, as determined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development would be eligible for taxpayer-funded counsel, provided they don't live in the same dwelling as their landlord.
