SAN FRANCISCO - As a young lawyer, Paul Slavit had little sympathy for colleagues who rushed into court late, suits disheveled, claiming they got caught in traffic.
"In my naive judgment, I thought they weren't managing their time very well," Slavit said.
Fast forward a few years. A frantic Slavit was flying up Interstate 80 in his Alfa Romeo, trying to reach a court appearance in Sacramento. A California Highway Patrol officer gave chase.
