LOS ANGELES - In Superior Court Judge Jerrold Abeles' department, where he presides over a fast-paced unlawful detainer trial calendar, time is an asset.
Recently, the judge completed jury selection just before the courtroom's digital clock hit noon. He sent 12 jurors, plus two alternates, out for lunch, instructing them to return in an hour and a half to begin proceedings promptly.
