SAN FRANCISCO -- Growing up in Monterey County, U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisa J. Cisneros recalled a time when her father's friend came to the house one weekend to dig a ditch in the front yard. 

Cisneros remembered that the man had one arm and had to hold the shovel unconventionally, "but this man was just digging with my dad. That was the kind of person that my dad was. He made me, and a lot of other people, feel like they could do really great things."  <... (continued)
