POMONA - Superior Court Judge Carol Williams Elswick rarely sanctions lawyers.

Known for her patience and even temperament, she says she seldom finds the need.

The judge recently imposed a hefty fine on a prospective juror, however, when he tried to get out of service by telling fellow members of the jury pool that the defendant in the pending burglary trial in Elswick's courtroom obviously was guilty.... (continued)
