Bar's Latest Dues Hike Flies in The Face of Democracy

Forum Column - By Stephen R. Barnett - State Bar dues are soaring again. The bar has a bonanza dues bill moving through the Legislature, and President-Elect James Heiting already says that's not enough. If he gets his way, further increases will follow. While there's nothing new about the State Bar putting dues ahead of members, there may be a battle shaping up between dues and democracy in the organization.
