Lawyer: Gates Not 'Great Satan,' Just a Competitor

Shaw Los Angeles Daily Journal WASHINGTON - In his opening shot at the government Tuesday, Microsoft's lead attorney at one point turned the Justice Department's antitrust case on its head, alleging it was the software giant's competitor, Netscape, not Microsoft, that essentially had a monopoly on the Internet browser market when Microsoft entered that arena; Microsoft merely acted aggressively but legally to market its competing browser.
