Partners in Protection

WESTMINSTER - Deputy District Attorney Sonia Balleste was concerned. She arrived at work Tuesday morning and was going through her usual stack of domestic violence cases when she came upon one that involved a man who brutally beat his wife. The woman had been beaten approximately 20 times in the past; the suspect's rap sheet showed a mere nine cases. A 3-year-old child was home when the latest beating occurred, raising the question of whether social services should become involved.
