The U.S. Supreme Court's just-finished term was another banner year for friend-of-the-court briefs. Two of the highest-profile cases - on affirmative action and abortion - drew the greatest interest, with over 80 amicus curiae briefs apiece, several of which the court discussed in its opinions. Overall, interested parties filed 849 amicus briefs, with at least one filed in 64 of the 69 cases the court heard.
