USC holds space law luncheon
The USC Gould School of Law hosted a Sept. 11 luncheon discussion about the emerging field of space law. "There is pretty much an open slate for the legal industry in space law," said panelist Matthew Schaefer, director of the Space, Cyber, and Telecommunications program at the University of Nebraska College of Law. Other panelists included Julie Jiru, contracts officer at Hawthorne-based Space Exploration Technologies Corp., and Rita M. Lauria, sole practitioner at Metalaw.US. Schaefer and the other panelists discussed the commercialization of the space industry and new contracts and liability concerns that have emerged as a result. They encouraged law students in attendance to pursue careers in the rapidly expanding field. — Caitlin Johnson
