9th Circuit nominee faces surprise Republican opposition

Republican resistance to Los Angeles lawyer Paul J. Watford, a supposed consensus nominee for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, may augur serious problems for all judicial candidates awaiting confirmation.

WASHINGTON - With his formidable credentials, support from conservatives and a lack of controversy surrounding his nomination, Los Angeles lawyer Paul J. Watford was supposed to be a consensus candidate for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. But it appears consensus is a hard thing to come by on Capitol Hill.
