SAN FRANCISCO - A Los Angeles man convicted of a 1984 burglary, rape and murder was spared the death penalty Thursday by the California Supreme Court.
The high court unanimously concluded that the trial judge gave the jury the wrong instructions for finding a felony murder special circumstance against defendant Kevin Bernard Haley.
