Cities Should Have Voice in Placement of Sexual Predators

Forum Column - By Alan M. Cohen - On Aug. 12, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed AB493, a bill that requires court-designated "sexually violent predators" to be relocated on release from a state hospital to the county in which they last lived. State politicians and bureaucrats at the Department of Mental Health were pleased; they claimed the new law would be a panacea to the turf wars that have arisen over the placement of this unique group of ex-convicts.
