DEA Anti-Marijuana Tactics May Backfire in Santa Cruz

SAN JOSE - The battle between federal authorities and medical marijuana providers has reached a sort of impasse. The Drug Enforcement Administration can, as it did 12 days ago, seize marijuana plants at a Santa Cruz cooperative even though it was operating with the knowledge and support of local officials and under the ostensible protection of state law.
