Fenwick & West: WEB DESIGNER MACROMEDIA BUYS COMPETITOR ALLAIRE

San Francisco's Macromedia Inc. has agreed to buy Boston's Allaire Corp. The stock deal is worth $360 million. Macromedia makes Web design software, including multimedia playback and graphics development tools. AOL Time Warner, Apple Computer and Microsoft have integrated Macromedia graphics and animation software into their products. The company's Schockwave Web site offers games, music and animated comics.
