Joanne M. Garvey, who broke a staggering number of glass ceilings by holding positions on the state and national levels that had never been occupied by a woman, died Thursday after battling cancer.
She was considered the "founding mother" of California Women Lawyers, which celebrated its 40th anniversary the day she died.
