Basic rights for pregnant workers

If passed, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act will protect pregnant employees from being terminated for requesting modest accommodations.

For the first time in history, women now comprise half the American workforce. And three-quarters of women entering today's workforce will become pregnant at least once while employed. Mothers are the primary or co-breadwinner in almost two-thirds of American families. Yet far too many women in this country are being pushed out of their jobs when they need them most - when they are expecting a child.
