Weil tapped by Applied Materials for merger with Japanese rival

Santa Clara-based semiconductor manufacturing equipment maker Applied Materials Inc. tapped Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP's Silicon Valley office for counsel in its merger with Tokyo Electron Ltd.

Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP netted the legal work on an Applied Materials Inc. deal that's expected to create one of the world's largest semiconductor equipment makers.


The company's estimated $9 billion all-stock takeover of Japanese rival Tokyo Electron Ltd., announced Tuesday, would create a company with a combined market value of roughly $29 billion.
