Bills would boost Bar enforcement powers

Lawmakers approved AB 1159 and AB 888 to boost the State Bar's power to protect consumers from fraud and the unauthorized practice of law. Both headed to the governor's desk.

Lawmakers approved a pair of bills late last week to boost the State Bar's power to protect consumers from fraud and the unauthorized practice of law.


One bill, AB 1159 by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego, in particular takes aim at the wave of fraud expected to target illegal immigrants if Congress adopts comprehensive immigration reform.
