August was unusually active for lateral moves

August has been known as a down time for lateral partner movements among law firms. But such activity nearly doubled this year.

August has long been known as a down time for lateral partner movements among law firms, but an explosion of activity this summer has brought that conventional logic into question.


According to a Daily Journal analysis of California law offices, the number of lateral partner moves in August from 2010 to 2012 hung steady between 24 and 26 before vaulting to 47 this year.
