Consumer attorneys flock to Las Vegas for convention

Dozens of top plaintiffs' attorneys and judges convened at the Wynn Las Vegas resort over Labor Day weekend for the nation's largest gathering of trial lawyers, the annual Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles convention. The 2,000 people in attendance were treated to continuing legal education seminars from some of the industry's hardest hitting lawyers. The "Master Speakers Session," a panel held Saturday evening and moderated by CAALA education chair Douglas N. Silverstein, addressed "Turning Negatives into Positives." It featured CAALA President Lisa Maki, Brian Panish, John Taylor, Gary A. Dordick, J. Jude Basile and Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Lee Smalley Edmon. Of course, the weekend wasn't all about education. Several parties, including ones thrown by Girardi Keese and Panish Shea & Boyle LLP, offered attendees a chance to unwind. — Chase Scheinbaum
