The December holidays are about, among other things, train sets, dollhouses and miniature villages. My favorite touch in my family's heirloom village is, directly in front, on the skirt of snow, a tiny figurine of a painter, looking over his easel with brush in hand, measuring the church and houses climbing into the tree-laden mountain, which, in turn, disappears into the religious and pagan mystery of the tree.
