RIVERSIDE - E. Aurora Hughes noticed she felt "unnaturally" tired one evening in February 2007 when lugging file boxes and law books to her car after trying a case in Orange County Superior Court. Her books and boxes seemed heavier, and she was having trouble catching her breath.

Nine months later, the longtime Riverside civil attorney could hardly walk without holding onto walls.
