Circuit could nix athlete pay

NCAA's argument that student players can't be paid gains some traction.

SAN FRANCISCO - Judges on a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel appeared sympathetic Tuesday to National Collegiate Athletic Association arguments that preserving amateurism precludes paying student-athletes.

"It looks to me like you crossed the line," Judge Jay S. Bybee told the players' attorney, "the theoretical line on pay for play."
