The terrifying derailment of a Metrolink train just north of Los Angeles is a jarring reminder about the risks associated with highway-rail crossings. In the early morning of Feb. 24, a cab car-forward Metrolink train collided with a truck just east of the Rice Road highway-rail crossing in Oxnard. The train engineer died and 29 people suffered injuries. Once again, the importance of railroad safety will be debated.
