There exists a sad spectacle in the United States at the moment. Our present attorney general, the chief law enforcement officer in the United States, is failing to lead the Department of Justice. Republican senators speak publicly of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales's lack of credibility. There are rumors of mass defections by career prosecutors leaving a weakened department.
