Fenwick & West: ADAPTEC PAYS $150 MILLION FOR PLATYS OF SANTA CLARA
Adaptec Inc. of Milpitas has agreed to buy Santa Clara's Platys Communications Inc. The stock-and-cash deal is worth $150 million. Adaptec makes adapters and controllers that both speed data transfer between computers, peripherals and networks and connect servers, workstations and desktops to storage devices. The company sells to Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston, Dell Computer Corp. of Round Rock, Texas, and IBM Corp. of Armonk, N.Y.
