Tort Reformers Will Go by a New Moniker

SACRAMENTO - The Association for California Tort Reform will change its name to Civil Justice Association of California, effective May 3. Composed of business and insurance interests, ACTR supports restrictions on lawsuits, damages and plaintiffs' attorneys' contingency fees. The group opposes the plaintiffs' bar's proposals to expand tort liability and damages, which typically have the effect of increasing contingency fees.
