SAN FRANCISCO - With hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, the long-delayed Genentech patent infringement trial opened Tuesday with the University of California accusing the biotech giant of infringing UC's 1982 patent on the DNA for the human growth hormone used in the drug Protropin.
