A Matter of Time

The recent dissolutions of Jackson Tufts Cole & Black and Bronson Bronson & McKinnon - two San Francisco firms known for high-quality lawyers and collegial cultures - have left survivors concerned for the future of midsize firms in the increasingly competitive legal field. With lawyers at big firms billing upwards of 2,000 hours a year, the fear is that "lifestyle" firms like Bronson, where partners were said to bill only 1,500 hours, may soon be extinct.
