A local nonprofit organization is suing the city of Whittier over a plan to allow oil drilling on a swath of Whittier Hills purchased with funds intended to preserve parkland.


The case is one of a number pitting open-space advocates against oil interests in park-starved, resource-rich Los Angeles County.
