Fee Hit Wallets, But Keep Courts Open

Court fees are increasing statewide to avoid more court closures.

A recent increase in civil filing fees - including a dramatic $300 hike in the price of summary-judgment motions - may take an uncomfortable bite out of some litigants' pocketbooks, but state court officials say the additional money is needed to avoid continued court closures.
