Lawyers Take Up Animal Rights
LOS ANGELES - Ventura-based sole practitioner Kate Neiswender describes herself as a reluctant animal activist. An environmental lawyer by training, Neiswender was tapped by state Sen. Tom Hayden in 1999 to protect from legislative meddling his Hayden Act, which established humane treatment standards at animal shelters.
