Event centers on ties between U.S. and Korea
The third annual U.S.-Korea Law Day brought legal professionals to Kia Motors America Inc. in Irvine on July 27 to discuss the intersection of American and Korean law — a topic many observers say deserves attention as the two countries increasingly cross paths. Held on the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, the conference and networking event drew roughly 150 people and featured panel discussions on issues including lessons learned from legal battles between Apple and Samsung, the rise of patent litigation against Korean companies by nonpracticing entities and national security law in South Korea. The intersection of U.S. and Korean law has become increasingly important since the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement was enacted in March 2012, allowing international law firms to set up offices in South Korea. — Alexandra Schwappach
