Lawyers tee off for charity
Golfers raised more than $40,000 to support the Los Angeles County Bar Association's public service projects at the group's fourth annual Charity Golf Tournament. Held at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia, the June 17 event challenged lawyers to 18 holes at the PGA-certified course and featured competitions including a million-dollar hole-in-one raffle, a 50-foot putting contest and awards for longest drive and closest shot to the pin. A silent auction and raffle for prizes rounded out the fundraising activities. LACBA said the tournament was its most successful in the four years the event has been held, raising money for legal services surrounding AIDS, domestic violence, immigration, military veterans and mediation. One of the day's biggest draws was the Wiki Wiki Shaved Ice station, which several golfers enjoyed so much that they looped around for second, and sometimes third, visits. — Ben Adlin
