President Barack Obama nominated San Francisco Deputy City Attorney Vince G. Chhabria Thursday to a seat on the Northern District of California bench.

President Barack Obama nominated San Francisco Deputy City Attorney Vince G. Chhabria Thursday to a seat on the Northern District of California bench.
If confirmed, Chhabria - picked for the vacancy opened when U.S. District Judge Susan Illston took senior status earlier this month - would be the first South Asian Article III judge on the West Coast and the third in the country.
