Sheriff Steps Down to Keep His Lawyers

SANTA ANA - Indicted Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona stepped down Monday primarily to keep mega-firm Jones Day on his defense team, his personal lawyer said. Carona, charged with federal corruption and witness-tampering counts in October, announced Monday that he would retire from office "with a heavy heart."
