SAN FRANCISCO - The first of 40 cases nationwide that charges Wal-Mart Stores Inc. with workplace violations went to trial in Alameda Superior Court last week. The $66 million suit alleges that 116,000 workers were denied meal breaks in violation of a 2001 California law.
