Cooley Grapples With M&A Loss

When a duo of senior lawyers left Cooley for Dewey & LeBoeuf, Cooley's chairman said the departures would have "a liberating effect" on the firm's M&A practice. But instead it had a "liberating effect" on some of Cooley's clients.

PALO ALTO - When a duo of senior mergers and acquisitions lawyers jumped from Cooley to Dewey & LeBoeuf's Silicon Valley office in July of last year, Cooley Chairman Stephen Neal said he was sorry they left, but that their departures would have "a liberating effect" on the remaining M&A lawyers and on the firm's ability to recruit going forward.
