Court Overturns Prison Term Ruling
The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously overturned the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Thursday, holding that a federal judge can't extend a prison term to promote a defendant's rehabilitation.
Justice Elena Kagan wrote in the court's opinion that the text, context and legislative history of the Sentencing Reform Act all "point to the same bottom line."
