Court Heightens The Scrutiny for Class Settlements

WASHINGTON - In a decision with major ramifications for class-action lawsuits, the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside a $1.5 billion asbestos-related settlement and, in doing so, may have made it more difficult for defendants and plaintiffs' lawyers to settle similar mass tort claims.
