Witnesses Recant in 19-Year-Old Murder

SANTA ANA - Orange County Public Defender Carl Holmes argued before a jury nearly two decades ago that there was not enough evidence to convict Dwayne McKinney of murdering the manager of an Burger King in the city of Orange in 1980. Now Holmes says he is doubly sure of McKinney's innocence, in light of recently recanted statements from witnesses in the case and new evidence coming from jailed convicts - clues resulting in the public defender's decision to file a motion today to retry the case.
