Absence of Marketable Skills
By Susan R. Wasserman The Social Security Administration has proposed significant regulatory changes that would make it easier to deny disability benefits to those approaching retirement age. See 64 Fed. Reg. 42310 (Aug. 4, 1999). The revisions would delete the "highly marketable skills" provision in 20 C.F.R. Sections 404.1563(d) and 416.963(d) that directly affects those between ages 60 and 64 who apply for Social Security disability benefits.
