Scholar's Views on Death Penalty Border on Barbaric

Forum Column - By Terri Towery - As an attorney in the Los Angeles County public defender's office who specializes in capital litigation, I feel it is important to rebut some of the assertions made in Ira L. Shafiroff's article, "Ultimate Sanction: Execution, A Moral Society Has Death Penalty for Punishing the Worst" (Jan. 21, Forum), in which he extols the moral virtue of the death penalty and excoriates David Westerfield's attorney for daring to defend him.
